Three in Top 10 of Men’s Giant Slalom at Utah Invitational

HUNTSVILLE, Utah – The Utah ski team placed three skiers in the top 10 of the men's giant slalom on the second day of the Utah Invitational at Snowbasin on Friday afternoon as the Utes stand third in the team standings.
 
Linus Walch had his best career finish with a fifth-place finish after running the second-fastest second run of the day. Sam Dupratt placed eighth while Martin Grasic had his best finish of the year with a ninth-place run. Walch has two top-six finishes this year while Dupratt has been in the top 10 of all three giant slalom races this season. It was Grasic's second career top-10 finish.
 
Ty Sprock placed 20th for the Utes on the day. Huston Philp was second after his first run and had a strong second run going before suffering a DNF.
 
Utah (138.5 points) trails Denver (176) and Montana State (145.5) in the team standings. Colorado and New Mexico are tied for fourth with 116 points with Westminster College third with 113 points.
 
The alpine portion of the Utah Invitational completes on Saturday, Jan. 13, with the men's and women's slalom races. The finish will be at the main base lodge at Snowbasin with live results at www.ussalivetiming.com. In addition, the Nordic team gets underway tomorrow with the women's 5-km and men's 10-km freestyle races in West Yellowstone, Mont., with live results at www.sportstats.us.
