Utah Skiing to Host Alpine Utah Invitational, Nordic at MSU Invite

SALT LAKE CITY – The Utah ski team continues this week hosting the alpine portion of the Utah Invitational at Snowbasin from Jan. 11-13 while the Nordic team is at the Montana State Invitational in West Yellowstone, Mont., from Jan. 13-14.
 
The Ute alpiners open the Utah Invitational with the women's giant slalom on Thursday, Jan. 11, with the men's GS following on Friday, Jan. 12. Both the men's and women's slalom run on Saturday, Jan. 13. The finish line will be at the main mountain base. Directions and ski lift information can be found at https://www.snowbasin.com. The Nordic team competes in the women's 5-km and men's 10-km freestyle races on Saturday, Jan. 13, with the women's 15-km and men's 20-km classic races on Sunday, Jan. 14, at the Rendezvous Ski Trails. Utah currently stands fifth in the team standings after the alpine portion of the Montana State Invitational.
 
In alpine, Ann-Kathrin Breuning is the only women's skier on the RMISA circuit who has finished in the top five in all three races this year. She has one podium finish (second) and a pair of fourth-place finishes. Julie Mohagen has finished in the top 14 in all three races while Sabine Krautgasser's best finish this season is 14th in the slalom at the MSU Invite. For the men, Sam Dupratt has one podium finish (second in the giant slalom at the Montana State Invitational) and a pair of top 10 finishes. Linus Walch finished sixth in the slalom in his last race while Martin Grasic, Huston Philp and Ty Sprock all have finishes in the top 15 this year.
 
In Nordic, Martin Bergström is off to another strong start with a win in the sprint freestyle and two top five finishes. Håkon Hjelstuen has finished fifth in both races this year. Logan Diekmann placed sixth in the sprint freestyle last weekend while Jacob Engström and Bjørn Riksaasen have also had strong finishes. For the women, Guro Jordheim finished fifth in the 10-km freestyle earlier this year and Mariah Bredal has two finishes in the top 12. Leah Lange and Karianne Moe have also competed for the women.
