SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Hanno Mottola scored a career-high 32 points, including a crucial 3-pointer, to lead Utah to a 79-73 victory over No. 14 Texas on Wednesday night.
The Longhorns (6-3) closed to 65-62 on Chris Mihm's jumper, but Mottola answered with a 3-pointer with 1:55 to play.
Mottola, playing his second game after preseason knee surgery, also grabbed 10 rebounds for Utah (8-2). His previous career high was 28, set last season also against Texas.
After the 6-foot-9 senior's big 3-pointer, the Utes made seven of eight free throws in the last 1:29. Texas made two 3-pointers in the final 23 seconds.
Alex Jensen scored 11 points while Phil Cullen and Tony Harvey each added nine for the Utes, who have won six straight.
Mihm led Texas with 19 points and Gabe Muoneke had 14.
