Northrop and Wappett Named Academic All-Americans

Ute gymnast Molly Northrop, who helped her team place fourth at the 1998 NCAA Championships, has been named to the 1998 GTE Academic All-America second team. Northrop a first-team All-American at the NCAA Championships, April 16-18, placed sixth on the uneven bars. She hit all five of her events at the national championships. The junior from Peoria, Ill., carries a 3.92 GPA in exercise and sport science. She is a two-time NACGC/W Scholastic All-American.

Ute skier Hailey Wappett, who starred on Utah's 1998 NCAA runner-up team, was named to the GTE Academic All-America third team. Wappett, a cross country skier, also first-team All-American at her NCAA Championships. The junior from Fairbanks, Alaska, owns a 3.92 GPA in civil engineering.
