Women's Tennis Falls to No. 6 Pepperdine

MALIBU, Calif. - The University of Utah Women's tennis team fell to the nation's sixth ranked women's team, Pepperdine. The Utes dropped five of the six singles matches as well as the doubles match to account for the 6-1 defeat.
In doubles play, Utah's Megan Payne and Molly Sanderson played in the No. 1 doubles match against Nicola Kaiwai and Paola Palencia which was suspended at 7-6 due to rain. The No. 2 match was won by Pepperdine's tandem of Anh Nguyen and Cintia Tortella over Linn Ronnberg and Irini Kotoglou, 8-1.
Pepperdine dominated singles play, winning five of the afternoon's six matches. Sanderson, playing at No. 2 singles, was the only Ute to attain victory, defeating Angela Lawrence, 7-6, 6-4. The other five matches were swept by Pepperdine. At No. 1, Apek Aenoglu downed Payne, 6-4, 6-1. The No. 3 match featured Kaiwai outlasting Ronnberg, 6-7, 6-4, 6-2, while Nguyen waxed Utah's Heidi Thomas, 6-1, 6-1 at No. 4. Ute Brooke Wilkinson was blanked by Tortella, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 5, while Palencia finished off the affair defeating Kotoglou, 7-5, 1-6, 6-3.
