SALT LAKE CITY - The Utes kick off the season this week by hosting the first Invitational of the year. The nine teams competing are Utah, Denver, Colorado, New Mexico, Alaska-Anchorage, Nevada, Western State, Whitman and Montana State along with USCSA skiers and guest teams. The schedule of events is as follows.

COACHES QUOTES: Head Coach Kevin Sweeney - "I think we are really ready to compete. Despite marginal snow conditions, we've had excellent training for both cross country and alpine. We've also had great early season race starts. I think we are in a good position to open up the season. There always is a lot of anxiety for how we are going to stack up to the other schools. The skiers are ready to finally get things started."
NEXT WEEK: The Utes will barely have time to catch their breaths as they will compete in two invitationals the following week. The Montana State Invitational will be taking place on January 12-15. The alpine portion of the competition will be held in Big Sky, Mont., while all of the cross country races will be back at Soldier Hollow, in Midway, Utah. Overlapping the Montana State Invitational is the U.S. Nationals competition which begins on Jan. 8 with the sprint qualification at 9:30. Competition will continue through Sat. Jan. 15 with both classical pursuit and freestyle races for both men and women.
