RMISA Reveals 2027 Skiing Schedule

Season opens up January 2; NCAA Championships head east this season
SALT LAKE CITY – The RMISA on Tuesday finalized the 2027 collegiate portion of its conference schedule, officially starting the countdown to the new season for the Utah Ski Team.

Utah will open the campaign on January 2 and 4 with races at Birkie Trails in Cable, Wisconsin. Both races are part of the larger U.S. Cross Country National Championships, though the collegiate field will be scored as the Nordic half of the Utah Invitational. Teams will race again in Cable on January 6-7 as RMISA Nordic Qualifier events.

Alpine heads out of the starting gate with four days at Vail Resort in Colorado from January 15-18. It'll comprise both the Denver Invitational and Colorado Invitational, with a giant slalom and slalom competition taking place for each meet.

The alpine slate continues on January 28-29 on home snow for the Utes, with races going down from the Spencer F. Eccles Olympic Mountain Center at the Utah Olympic Park. That will conclude Utah's home meet, meanwhile that same weekend Nordic teams will conclude the Colorado Invitational at Howelsen Hill.

A busy first week of February follows on both the alpine and Nordic circuits. Nevada will host its alpine-only home meet as well as a couple RMISA qualifiers from Mt. Rose in Reno, Nevada, while Nordic squads head to Snow Mountain Ranch in Colorado to close out the Denver Invitational.

Teams are off until converging in Alaska for the final week of February. Nordic teams will be in Fairbanks for the UAF Invitational (Feb. 21-22), before heading over to Anchorage and Girdwood, Alaska, as UAA hosts the RMISA Championships (Feb. 24-27). As with past seasons, the RMISA Championships will also serve as the NCAA West Regional.

The 2027 season will be an East year for the NCAA Championships and Vermont is slated to host the national meet from March 10-13. The format has slightly changed for nationals this year, as a classic sprint has been added to the Nordic portion of the meet. With that change, both slalom and 7.5K freestyle events will take place on March 10, before the classic sprints go down on March 11. GS will be on March 12 before the season concludes with a 20K classic mass start on March 13.

For the NCAA Championships, alpine races will be held at Stowe Mountain Resort with Nordic action taking place at Craftsbury Outdoor Center.

Utah is coming off its 18th national championship all-time, having captured the 2026 crown on home snow. Despite facing injuries and illnesses throughout last season, the Utes battled back from a deficit midway through NCAAs to finish with two individual championships and 15 All-American honors. Director of skiing Fredrik Landstedt was honored as Utah Sports Commission Coach of the Year while Pierre Niess was lauded as RMISA Nordic Coach of the Year.
