SALT LAKE CITY - The Utah swimming and diving teams rounded out the dual meet season with losses to conference foe Brigham Young. The men fell 148.5-75.5 and the women lost 163-61. The Ute men finish the season with a 2-9 overall record going 0-4 in the Mountain West Conference. Utah's women are 2-7 with a 2-6 conference mark.
Highlighting for the Utes, Melissa Walker won both the 500 and 1000 freestyle events for the women's team. Melissa Chamberlin won the 200 IM and Erin Blundell swam to a second-place finish in the 100 fly.
On the men's side, Matt Chamberlain won the 200 IM and 100 fly. Sprinter Johan Nystrom won the 100 free and was second in the 200 free. Robert Renna swam to a first-place finish in the 1000 free and Stephen Linge was second in the 100 back.
At the BYU Diving Invitational, senior Nick Smith won the men's 1-meter dive with a score of 497.4 and finished sixth in the 3-meter (471.5). Jill Comins was second in the 1-meter for the women (377.4) and was third in the 3-meter (446.15). Kristy Mayo finished fifth in the women's 1-meter, Crystal Gregory was sixth in the 3-meter and seventh in the 1-meter and Erica Fleming was seventh in the 3-meter and ninth in the 1-meter. Trent Brown was also seventh in the 1-meter and ninth in the 3-meter for the men.
The Utes take three weeks to prepare for the Mountain West Conference Championships Feb. 16-19 in Oklahoma City, Okla.
