Colorado Springs, Colo. - The University of Utah women's volleyball team defeated the Air Force Falcons in three games, 15-6, 15-3, 15-8 at Clune Arena on Fri., Nov. 10. Utah improves to 18-6 overall, 9-4 in the MWC. Air Force falls to 6-19 on the season, 0-13 in Mountain West Conference play.
Junior Lenka Urbanova led Utah with 15 kills for an impressive .433 hitting percentage. Freshman middle blocker Kim Turner totaled 13 kills for a .310 hitting percentage and six total blocks. Senior Brooke Barton led the team with eight digs, while setter Lucie Turkova posted six kills for a .333 hitting percentage, 42 assists and six digs. As a team Utah had a .323 hitting percentage and added eight total team blocks.
Ana-Marie Ortega led the Falcons with 14 kills. Teammate Jamie Rempel totaled nine kills for a .333 hitting percentage. Delvane Diaz led the team with 11 digs and Kristin Huitt posted 29 assists in the match. Air Force hit for only .047 and managed just three total team blocks.
"We played very well tonight," said Head Coach Beth Launiere. "It was a good match to get under our belts and I think we're ready to get down to New Mexico and wrap up third place ( in the Mountain West Conference)."
In other news, Utah Head Coach Beth Launiere needs just two more wins to hit the 200 career-win mark.
UP NEXT: On Sat., Nov. 11, Utah will face MWC opponent New Mexico in Albuquerque, N.M. at 7:00 p.m. (MST). The Utes will travel to Fort Collins, Colo. on Nov. 15-18 to compete for the Mountain West Conference Tournament crown. On Nov. 22, Utah will face Weber State in Ogden, Utah at 7:00 p.m. (MST). The Utes end their regular-season at home with a match against non-conference opponent Denver on Sat., Nov. 25, at 1:00 p.m. (MST).
