OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - The Utah men's and women's swimming and diving teams are holding to fourth-place slots following the third day of the Mountain West Conference Championships. The Ute women's team ranks with a score of 307 behind Brigham Young (507), UNLV (446.4) and Colorado State (379). The Utah's men's team has 360 points trailing BYU (549), UNLV (488) and Air Force (414).
All-American Heidi Hausknecht won the ladies 100 butterfly and qualified for the NCAA Champoinships with a B standard time. Junior Erin Blundell swam to a third-place finish in the 200 free . Senior Heike Kutz was sixth 100 back, Melissa Walker was 13th in the 400 IM and Lisbeth Jensen was 14th in the 100 breast. Four Ute divers posted points for the Utes on the 3-meter board: Crystal Gregory was runner-up in the event, Kristy Mayo finished fourth, Erica Fleming ranked seventh and Jill Comins finished ninth.
In the men's lanes, senior Jon Wright swam to a second-place finish in the 400 IM. Matt Chamberlain was runner-up in the 100 fly, swimming an NCAA B standard qualifying time of 49.10. And Johan Nystrom was second in the 200 free also swimming an NCAA B standard time (1:39.01).
The Utes finish up the four-day championship event tomorrow.
