SALT LAKE CITY - The Utah men's and women's swimming and diving teams finished fifth at the inaugural Mountain West Conference Championships. The men tallied a score of 512 and the women posted 432. Brigham Young won both the men's and women's competitions and UNLV swam into the second-place spot in both heats.
On the final day of competition, Crystal Gregory won the women's platform event with a score of 363.25, followed by senior Kristy Mayo who finished third (301.5). Ute Diving Coach Ted Everett was honored as the Mountain West Conference Women's Diving Coach of the Year.
In the lanes, Heidi Hausknecht was second in the 100 free, Melissa Walker was fifth in the 1650 free and Erin Blundell swam to a 12th-place finish in the 200 fly.
For the men, Robert Renna won the 1650 free, Matt Chamberlain earned another NCAA B standard time when he placed third in the 200 fly (1:48.65) and Jon Wright finished fifth in the 200 fly.
The Utah women's team rounds out the season with a 2-9, 2-5 conference record while the men finish with a 2-7 record with a 0-4 conference mark.
