SALT LAKE CITY - The University of Utah women's tennis team cruised to a 3-0 record, before some stiff competition handed the Utah its first losses of the season.
No. 34 Washington State took a 7-2 victory over Utah, who had wins from Megan Payne-Dorny at No. 1 singles, and an impressive victory by Cassie Kasteler at No. 4, on Friday.
No. 66 Colorado needed the last match of the day to go away with a narrow 5-4 triumph. Utah needed to win all three doubles matches to earn the win over a regional opponent, but fell just shy at the No. 2 spot, where Irini Kotoglou and Frida Kareld couldn't quite find a rhythm against Nadine Kenzelman and Mara Berzins. Utah had opportunities to close out the match with singles play, but lost two tight matches in the Nos. 4 and 6 slots.
