Utah Women's Tennis To Host Southern Utah

This Week:
The University of Utah women's tennis team (6-10, 3-4 MWC) will host Southern Utah University (8-5, 6-2 Mid-Continent Conference) in the regular-season finale outside at Liberty Park Sat., April 15 at 11:00 a.m.
About the Utes:
Utah has played one of the most favorable schedules in team history, with this match being the 12th and final home match of 17 on the season. However, the competition has not been quite as favorable. All 10 Ute losses have come at the hands of ranked opponents, while their wins have been impressive. Injuries have plagued the team all season and looks as though they will prevent Utah from reaching its fourth NCAA regional in five years.
MWC's Best:
Utah's Megan Payne-Dorny had a huge week upsetting three ranked players from top-45 teams. She was rewarded by earning her second McLeodUSA Mountain West Conference women's tennis Player of the Week award.
She beat No. 41 Brigham Young's Eline Chiew (No. 58), No. 19 Florida State's Alida Gallovits (No. 85), and No. 7 Florida's Whitney Laiho (No. 25) to share the weekly honor with Nevada-Las Vegas' Katarina Malec, who beat the defending NCAA champion. Payne-Dorny earned the honor for the second time this season, garnering the award for the week of Feb. 9. Payne-Dorny fell out of the ITA rankings three weeks ago, but after the big week and consistent play of late, she is threatening to move back in and earn an individual berth to the NCAA Championships in Malibu, Calif. May 18-26.
Looking Ahead:
Three and four in the Mountain West, Utah has a week off before the conference tournament in Las Vegas Apr. 27-29.
