LAS VEGAS, Nev. - After getting upset in the consolation bracket by eight-seeded Air Force, the fifth-seeded University of Utah women's tennis team rebounded to shutout Wyoming for seventh place at the Mountain West Conference Tournament, 6-0.
Megan Payne-Dorny and Linn Ronnberg were the lone wins against the Falcons, but the whole singles lineup cruised against the Cowboys. Payne-Dorny picked up an easy 6-3, 6-0 win at No. 1 over Melanie Roberts, while Ronnberg earned her second tournament victory at No. 5 beating Angela Dossetor, 6-3, 6-2. Cassie Kasteler and Irini Kotoglou battled in three-sets at No. 2 and 4 respectively. Kasteler upended Sarah Kay, 6-4, 4-6, 7-5, while Kotoglou outslugged Shirley Mendoza, 2-6, 7-6, 6-3. Frida Kareld won in two-sets over Sofia Espinosa, 7-6, 6-3 at No. 3, and Brooke Wilkinson picked up the insurance point defeating Amanda Roberts, 6-4, 6-2.
Ranked No. 63 nationally, Payne-Dorny earned All-Conference singles, while teaming with Kasteler to garner All-Conference doubles honors.
The Utes finished the season 8-14.
