New Utah Swimming and Diving Head Coach Mike Litzinger has named this season's team captains.
For the men, the co-captians are junior Brandon Durrant and senior Joe Linford. Durrant returns this season after a 10th place finish at the Mountain West Conference Championship and was honored as a Mountain West Conference All-Academic Team member. Linford placed 14th in the 200 butterfly, 16th in the 100 butterfly, and 18th in the 200 IM at the Mountain West Conference Championships.
On the women's side, the tri-captains are senior Erin Blundell, senior Heidi Hausknecht and senior Jamie Wayman. Blundell returns this season after taking a third place finish in the 200 free, tenth in the 500 breast and 12th in the 200 butterfly at the Mountain West Conference Championships. Hausknecht comes into this season after a 37th place finish out of 99 swimmers in the 100 butterfly at the U.S. Olympic Trials. She is the only returning All-American and took top honors at the Mountain West Championship in the 50 free and 100 butterfly. She was the only Ute to compete at the NCAA Championships last year and took a 22nd place finish in the 100 butterfly. Wayman is coming off of a 24th place finish in the 200 back at the Mountain West Conference Championship. She was honored with the Mountain West Conference's prestigious Scholar Athlete Award.
These five captians will lead the Utah Swimming and Diving team with their experience and leadership qualities when they begin thier season at the Colorado State Early Bird Invitational on Oct.20-21.
