Two Utes Claim Top Spot on the Podium

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The University of Utah wrapped day one of the CMU Intermountain Shootout with two first place finishes.

Utah was led on the diving boards by Cierra Cole and Marti Llop, who each took gold in the 3-meter springboard competition. Cole won the women's event with a score of 285.50, while Llop came out on top on the men's side with a 293.70.

In the Pool

Utah posted several top-five finishes across the swimming events, including a pair of fourth-place finishes in the 200 IM and 100 Back.
Strahinja Maslo led the way in the men's 200 IM, finishing fourth with a 1:49.80. Finn Winkler followed in sixth at 1:50.69, while Jan Schmidt placed 10th in 1:51.87.
Ana Diedrichs paced Utah in the women's 100 Back, placing fourth with a 57.47. Luan Barnard led the Utah men in the 100 Back, taking fourth with a 49.54. Winston Sundeen followed in seventh with a 50.33.
Maela McKallip was Utah's top finisher in the women's 50 Free, placing fourth with a 23.80. Isabella Riso also earned a top-15 finish, taking 13th in 24.33.
The Utes placed four swimmers in the top 10 of the women's 200 Fly. Avery Whorton led the group with a fifth-place finish in 2:07.34, followed by Cerimele in seventh at 2:08.69 and Abby Pope in eighth at 2:09.07. Shienna Lin rounded out the group in ninth with a 2:09.71. Jakub Walter paced Utah in the men's 200 Fly, finishing fourth with a 1:49.50.
Riso led Utah in the women's 100 IM, placing sixth with a 59.56. Ella Derby followed in ninth at 59.87, while McKallip finished 14th in 1:00.28. Winkler led the Utah men in the 100 IM, taking fifth with a 50.55. Maslo finished 11th in 51.94, followed by Schmidt in 13th at 52.02.
Jones Lambert paced the Utah men in the 200 Free with a sixth-place finish in 1:39.51. Jakub Walter followed in eighth at 1:40.40, while Nolan Arnholt finished 10th in 1:41.16.
Utah also had a strong showing in the women's 1,000 Free, led by Abby Pope's third-place finish in 10:33.70. Owen Carlsen led Utah in the men's 1,000 Free, finishing fifth in 9:32.05. Jacob Pins followed in eighth at 9:45.55.
The women's 200 Free Relay team of McKallip, Riso, Diedrichs and Holler placed fourth in 1:35.87, while the men's team of Lambert, Moore, Rogersson and Winkler finished fourth in 1:22.34.
The women's 400 Medley Relay teams of Diedrichs, Derby, Gourley and Holler and Sterkenburg, Steinmetz, Florin and Amos finished fifth and sixth, respectively. The men's teams of Dunkel, Gallagher, Winkler and Moore and Sundeen, Yi, Hoang and Roden also placed fifth and sixth.

On the Boards

Utah was led by Cole and Llop in the 3-meter springboard competitions.
Cole won gold in the women's event with a 285.50 total, while Annalise Shrader finished second with a 280.85. Finlee Sharp and Sarah Kaufman also competed for Utah, placing sixth and seventh, respectively.
Llop took gold on the men's 3-meter springboard with a 293.70 total. Attila Bernatsky followed in second with 291.55, while Rudy Gentry-Peacock completed the podium in third with 274.94. Alex Just placed fifth with a 247.90.
