Laramie, Wyo. - The University of Utah women's volleyball team defeated the Wyoming Cowgirls in four games, 15-10, 13-15, 15-2, 15-5 at Laramie, Wyo. on Fri., Sept. 29. Utah improves to 11-1 overall, 3-0 in the MWC. Wyoming falls to 6-11 on the season, 0-2 in the MWC.
Junior Lenka Urbanova led Utah with 12 kills for a .440 hitting percentage and nine digs. McKelle Stilson totaled 10 kills and four blocks and Lucie Turkova posted 44 assists. Senior Jen Snow-Richards led the team with 12 digs and Adrianne Bradley-Drake added 10 digs. Freshman Kim Turner posted seven kills for a .429 hitting percentage. Utah hit for .187 and racked up 12 total team blocks.
Jamie Burke led Wyoming with 13 kills and 16 digs and Katy Brown posted 31 assists. Michele Rauter totaled 11 kills and 15 digs and teammates Barbie Brag and Melody Friehauf added 10 kills each. Wyoming hit for just .071 and added nine total team blocks in the match.
"Except for a letdown in game two, we played really good volleyball," said Head Coach Beth Launiere. "They came in fired up and played very well and this is a good example of how hard it is to play on the road in this conference. It was a tough match and I though we really played well."
UP NEXT: On Sat., Sept. 30, Utah travels to Fort Collins, Colo. to face the No. 3 ranked Colorado State Rams at 7:00 p.m. (MST). The Utes are back at home on Tues., Oct. 3, taking on Idaho State at 7:00 p.m. (MST). On Fri., Oct. 6, Utah hosts in-state rival Brigham Young at 7:00 p.m. (MST). Utah hits the road on Tues., Oct. 10, facing in-state rival Utah State at 7:00 p.m. (MST) in Logan, Utah. On Fri., Oct. 13, Utah hosts MWC opponent New Mexico at 7:00 p.m. (MST). Utah will take on Air Force at home on Sat., Oct. 14, at 7:00 p.m. (MST).
