THIS WEEK: The University of Utah women's swimming and diving team will travel to Corvallis, Ore., to compete in a dual meet with Oregon State. The meet will be held on Friday and start at 7:00 p.m. (PDT). Last year the Utes defeated Oregon State by outscoring the Beavers 120-101. This will be women's first dual meet of the season.
EARLY BIRD INVITATIONAL RECAP: The Utah women finished second at the Colorado State Early Bird Invitational totaling 867 points. The Utes came in behind Colorado State in the eight team field. Neringa Statkeviciute had an impressive meet, taking top honors in three events. She finished first in the 50, 100 and 200 freestyle events. Sophomore Kristen Kaiser finished first in both the 1650 free and 400 IM events, while Loren Sweny took top honors in the 500 free. The 800 free relay team set a new Early Bird Invitational record with a time of 7:41.25. The members of the relay team were Sara Afong, Kaiser, Statkeviciute and Sweny. The women's 400 free relay team finished first with a time of 3:34.44 and included Courtney McKinney, Kaiser, Statkeviciute and Sweny.
QUOTING COACH MIKE LITZINGER: "Oregon State is in a similar position as we are, they are in the midst of building a program and gaining respect in their conference. Last year, both of our meets with them came down to the last events with Utah winning one and OSU winning one. I expect this weekend to be exactly the same, highly competitive."
