THIS WEEK: The University of Utah men's and women's swimming and diving teams will host Brigham Young at Ute Natatorium on Friday at 6:00 p.m. (MST). Both the Cougar men's and women's teams won the Mountain West Conference championship last season. This will be the first conference meet of the season for both teams.
OREGON STATE RECAP: The Utah women's swimming and diving team traveled to Corvallis, Ore., last Friday to compete against Oregon State. The Utes lost their first dual meet of the season by a score of 116-89.
Freshman Loren Sweny led the Utes by taking top honors in the 200 free and 200 back. Sweny set a Utah school record in the 200 back with a time of 2:05.27. Neringa Statkeviciute finished first in the 100 free with a time of 52.40, and finished second in the 50 free with a time of 24.54. Sophomore Kristen Kaiser finished second in the 200 fly (2:09.72), 500 free (5:06.21) and 1,000 free (10:15.85).
QUOTING COACH MIKE LITZINGER: "Anytime you are hosting the conference champions, it will be an exciting meet. BYU has set the standard in the MWC over the last few seasons and it is up to Utah to rise to the challenge of competing with the best."
UTE NOTES: Cody Rempfer was named MWC Men's Swimmer of the Week on Oct. 24. Rempfer set a Colorado St. Early Bird Invitational record in the 200 fly (1:52.87) ... Loren Sweny set a Utah school record in the 200 back (2:05.27) against Oregon State ... Neringa Statkeviciute has finished first in the 100 free two weeks in a row.
