The University of Utah men's and women's swimming and diving teams will showcase their talents in the Crimson and White Alumni Meet on Saturday, Oct. 6, at 12:00 p.m. in the Ute Natatorium, located north of the Huntsman Center. The varsity Utes will scrimmage against the alumni in the first annual event.
Returning alumni for the women include Robynn Masters from the class of 1984 and a 2000 Crimson Club Hall of Fame inductee. Erin Blundell, a graduate in 2001, is the school record-holder in the 200 fly and 400 free relay.
Headlining the current Ute women competing will be Kristen Kaiser. She finished first in the 400 IM and set the conference record with a time of 4:23.00 at the 2001 Mountain West Championships. Kaiser also set three school records last year in the 400 IM, 500 free and 1000 free events.
Two NCAA All-Americans will come back for the men's alumni team. Pat Hayes, who graduated in 1985, holds the school record and was an All-American in the 200 free. Shawn Rowland graduated in 1988 and received All-America honors in the 200 IM, 400 IM and the 200 fly. Rowland also holds the Utah school record in the 500 free.
Senior Daniel Godfrey will compete for the first time this season on Saturday. Godfrey placed 11th in the 100 breast and 12th in the 200 breast at the 2001 Mountain West Conference Championships.
"I am proud and excited to have our alumni back home," says head coach Mike Litzinger. "Our rich tradition in swimming is certainly well represented here, and having these former athletes involved with our program today is a great moment by bringing the future together with the past."
