Las Vegas, Nev. - The No. 14 ranked University of Utah women's volleyball team defeated the UNLV Rebels, 3-1 (31-33, 30-25, 30-21, 30-25), on Sat., Nov. 10 in Las Vegas, Nev. The Utes improve to 19-5 overall, 11-3 in MWC play. The Rebels move to 9-13 overall, 6-8 in the MWC.
The Utes saw six players score in double-figure kills and four players in double-figure digs. Junior Sylva Strzinkova racked up a career-high 22 kills for a .271 hitting percentage and tied a career-high 18 digs. Kim Turner totaled 12 kills for a .579 hitting percentage and seven blocks. Adrianne Drake and McKelle Stilson notched 11 kills each, with Drake adding 12 digs on the night. Katrena Ellett and Alisa Geddes each had 10 kills, while Lenka Urbanova added 11 digs. Jackie Morrill tied a career-high 37 assists and Kelsie Kartcher posted 30 assists in the match. As a team, Utah hit for .272 and added 13.0 total blocks.
Patricia Assuncao led UNLV with 19 kills and 11 digs. Blair Wilkes notched 15 kills and teammate Leiana Oswald added 11 kills. Niki King posted 45 assists and led the team with 12 digs. The Rebels managed a .190 hitting percentage and totaled 18.0 blocks in the match.
"It was a great total team effort by everyone," said Head Coach Beth Launiere. "It was not an easy win, but we stuck together as a team and we got it done. Finishing up the regular-season in second place for the first time during my time here at Utah is a great feeling. I am proud of the way we got the win."
UP NEXT: The Utes will compete for the MWC Tournament crown on Thurs.-Sat., Nov. 15-17, in Provo, Utah.
