THIS WEEK: Saturday, the Ute men's and women's swimming and diving teams host MWC opponent UNLV at 1:00 p.m. (MST). The coed meet will be held at the Ute Natatorium, located north of the Huntsman Center. The Utah women's team is 0-2 overall and 0-1 in the MWC, while the men's team is 0-1 overall and 0-1 in the conference. UNLV will face Brigham Young on Friday before traveling to Salt Lake City to face the Utes. Both Rebel teams are 1-0 overall and 0-0 in the MWC.
BRIGHAM YOUNG MEET RECAP: The Utah men's and women's swimming and diving teams hosted Brigham Young on Friday at Ute Natatorium. The women's team lost 124-117, but won 7 of 13 the swimming events. The Ute men fell 152-91.
Neringa Statkeviciute led the women by finishing first in two individual events. She won the 50 free with a time of 23.85 seconds, which places her fourth on the Utah all-time top-10 performances list. Statkeviciute also won the 100 free in 51.26 seconds, the second-best time on the Utah career charts.
The men were led by Evan Castro, who finished first in the 200 breast (2:07.65) and second in the 200 free (1:44.00). Freshman Cody Rempfer finished first in the 200 fly with a time of 1:53.88.
QUOTING COACH MIKE LITZINGER: "UNLV will be an interesting matchup for both of our squads. The men will see a team much like BYU strong in the sprints and relays. We will have to counter with our stroke events. Each women's team has their "go to" swimmers, and I expect the meet to be extremely competitive."
UTE NOTES: Cody Rempfer was named MWC Men's Swimmer of the Week on Oct. 24. Rempfer set a Colorado State Early Bird Invitational record in the 200 fly (1:52.87). He has won the 200 fly in the both of the meets he has competed in. ... Loren Sweny set a Utah school record in the 200 back (2:05.27) against Oregon State. ... Neringa Statkeviciute is second on the Utah top-10 performances list in the 100 free, posting a time of 51.26 against BYU. Statkeviciute has finished first in the event three weeks in a row. She also ranks fourth on the Ute top-10 performances list in 50 free (23.85).
