Utah Women's Basketball Defeats Weber State On The Road

Ogden, Utah - The University of Utah women's basketball team defeated the Weber State Wildcats, 72-65 on the road in Ogden, Utah on Mon., Dec. 17. The Utes improve to 5-3 on the season, while Weber State drops to 5-5 overall.
After an ugly first half, the Utes settled in and stepped up offensively. In the second half, Utah shot 54 percent from the field, 50 percent from behind the arc and 80 percent at the free-throw line. Free-throws were key for Weber State in the second half, but it was not enough. The Wildcats went to the line 24 times compared to the Utes, which had just 15 attempts in the game. Weber State tied the game at 41-41 with 15:06 left to go in the game, but it was the closest they would get as the Utes went on to win.
For Utah, senior Lindsay Herbert racked up 17 points on 7-of-9 shooting from the field and 3-of-3 shooting from behind the arc. Lauren Beckman totaled 16 points and six rebounds. Beckman shot 7-of-10 from the field and 2-of-3 from the free-throw line. Carley Marshall notched 13 points and led the team on the boards with seven rebounds. Senior Erin Gibbons added 11 points on the night. As a team, Utah went 27-of-53 from the field, 7-of-13 from the three-point line and 11-of-15 from the charity stripe.
Stephanie Stanger racked up 17 points and seven rebounds for the Wildcats. She was 4-of-9 from the field, 3-of-4 from behind the arc and 6-of-7 from the free-throw line. Kris Clyder-Gardner totaled 15 points and teammate Crystal Howe posted 13 points and 11 boards. As a team, Weber State shot 42 percent (20-of-48) from the field, 55 percent (6-of-11) from three-point range and 79 percent (19-of-24) from the free-throw line.
"We played a very good Weber State team tonight and I am pleased with the win on the road," said Head Coach Elaine Elliott. "We certainly have a lot to work on, but we're going to move forward. I thought our bench played very well tonight and helped give us the offensive boost that we needed."
UP NEXT: Utah will face Nevada on the road on Wed., Dec. 19 at 7:00 p.m. (PST). The Utes continue the six-game road trip on Fri., Dec. 21, meeting Montana at 7:35 p.m. in Missoula, Mont.
