No. 18/19 Ranked Utes Undefeated In MWC Play

Colorado Springs, Colo. - The No. 18/19 ranked University of Utah women's basketball team defeated the Air Force Falcons, 59-29, on Sat., Feb. 3, in Colorado Springs, Colo. The Utes improve to 18-2 overall, 7-0 in the Mountain West Conference. Air Force drops to 3-17 overall, 0-7 in MWC play.
Utah's Lauren Beckman opened the game scoring 12 points in the first half, with the Utes leading 24-14 at the break. Utah racked up 15 points off the bench and 30 points in the paint. The Utes scored 28 points off turnovers and 10 second chance points. Utah out-rebounded the Falcons 36-22, and notched 14 assists, 11 steals and five blocks.
Beckman led all scorers with 16 points, five rebounds, two blocks and one steal. Lindsay Herbert and Amy Ewert combined for 16 points, with Ewert racking up four steals and three assists. Katherine McColl and Kristina Andersen each had seven boards in the game. Utah went 21-of-44 (48 percent) from the field, 2-of-10 (20 percent) from three-point range and set a Utah school record for free-throw percentage (93.8%, 15-of-16).
For the Falcons, Shanekia Peebles scored nine points and three steals. Teammate Rozalyn Russ led the team with nine rebounds and added eight points. Air Force shot just 24 percent from the field (10-of-42), 21 percent from behind the arc (5-of-24) and 50 percent from the free-throw line (4-of-8).
"We were able to make them take some tough shots and not give up so many lay-ups, so we were pretty successful at that," said Head Coach Elaine Elliott. "Lauren (Beckman) did a nice job for us and its always nice to be able to get the ball in close when you're struggling from other areas on the floor." said Elliott.
AFTER THIS: Utah will host San Diego State on Thurs., Feb. 8, at 7:00 p.m. and UNLV on Sat., Feb. 10, at 3:00 p.m. On Thurs., Feb. 15, the Utes travel to Laramie, Wyo., to face the Cowgirls at 7:00 p.m. Utah will meet Colorado State on Sat., Feb. 17 in Fort Collins, Colo., at 2:00 p.m. On Fri., Feb. 23, Utah will travel to Provo, Utah to take on the Cougars of Brigham Young at 7:00 p.m. The Utes are back at home on Thurs., Mar. 1, when they face the Air Force Falcons at 7:00 p.m. Utah hosts New Mexico in its final regular-season game on Sat., Mar. 3, at 3:00 p.m. in the Jon M. Huntsman Center. Utah will vie for its second-straight MWC tournament championship on Mar. 7-10, in Las Vegas, Nev.
