ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The University of Utah baseball team improved to 12-10 with a 13-3 win over New Mexico on Mar. 10. The Utes second victory in three games against New Mexico, was given to Jon Lewis, who pitched five innings for the Utes, allowing only two hits. Lewis struck out seven batters, without allowing a single run.
Nate Weese drove in two RBI's on a second-inning single up the middle, to give the Utes an early lead over the Lobos. In the fourth inning, Weese again drove in two, smashing a homerun for Utah. Mike Westfall and Brit Pannier hit back-to-back homers in the fifth to give the Utes an 8-3 lead.
The Utes tallied four more runs in the seventh to extend their lead and breeze on to a 13-3 victory. Weese finished the game 4-for-4 with six RBI's. Pannier was 3-for-5, while Westfall and Tommy Maestas were 3-for-6.
The Utes are 2-1 in Mountain West Conference play. They will take on the Air Force Falcons in Colorado Springs, Colo. Mar. 16-18.
