Los Angeles, Calif. - The No. 21 ranked University of Utah women's volleyball team defeated the Loyola Marymount Lions in four games, 30-25, 23-30, 30-25, 30-19 in Los Angeles, Calif. on Sat., Sept. 22. Utah improves to 5-3 overall, 0-1 in the MWC. LMU drops to 5-4 on the season.
Utah was led by Sylva Strzinkova who picked up 17 kills and 15 digs in the match. Adrianne Drake led all hitters on the night with a .500 hitting percentage (9k, 1-e, 43a) and posted 12 digs. Alisa Geddes racked up 10 kills and 11 digs, while Kim Turner added 13 kills and seven total blocks. McKelle Stilson had 10 kills in the match. Freshman setter Kelsie Kartchner posted 41 assists and Tracy Neumeier had 10 assists in the match. As a team Utah posted a .237 hitting percentage and 13.0 total team blocks.
For the Lions, Kristin Gallup totaled 17 kills and 13 digs. Eleftheria Koukou added 11 kills on the night. LMU hit for .142, adding just 5.0 total team blocks.
UP NEXT: On Tues., Sept. 25, the Utes will face Idaho State at 7:00 p.m. in Pocatello, Idaho. Utah is back in action at home on Fri., Sept. 28 vs. Air Force and on Sat., Sept. 29 vs. New Mexico. Match times are set for 7:00 p.m. The Utes hit the road on Fri., Oct. 5, travelling to Fort Collins, Colo., and facing Colorado State at 7:00 p.m. On Sat., Oct. 6, Utah will take on the Wyoming Cowgirls at 7:00 p.m. in Laramie, Wyo.
