Pocatello, Idaho - The No. 22 ranked University of Utah women's volleyball team defeated the Idaho State Bengals in four games, 30-22, 30-16, 30-32, 30-18 in Pocatello, Idaho on Tues., Sept. 25. Utah improves to 6-3 overall, 0-1 in the MWC. Idaho State drops to 4-7 on the season.
Utah was led by Sylva Strzinkova. She picked up 15 kills, 15 digs and hit for .313 in the match. Kim Turner posted 10 kills, six blocks and hit for .231 on the night. Brenda Beal came off the bench and tallied six kills for a .667 hitting percentage, while Katrena Ellett added eight kills for a .333 hitting percentage. Jackie Morrill added 10 digs, respectively. Freshman setter Kelsie Kartchner posted 40 assists and Tracy Neumeier had 10 assists in the match. As a team Utah posted a .285 hitting percentage and 10.0 total team blocks.
For the Bengals, Kamie Olsen and Melanie Tucker combined for 34 kills in the match. Tucker and Amanda Meixel each totaled 10 dogs, while Sarah Kozlowski notched 42 assists. ISU hit for .152, adding 10.0 total team blocks.
"They (ISU) got us out of sync in game three, but we played three very good games and pulled out the win," said Head Coach Beth Launiere.
UP NEXT:Utah is back in action at home on Fri., Sept. 28 vs. Air Force and on Sat., Sept. 29 vs. New Mexico. Match times are set for 7:00 p.m. The Utes hit the road on Fri., Oct. 5, travelling to Fort Collins, Colo., and facing Colorado State at 7:00 p.m. On Sat., Oct. 6, Utah will take on the Wyoming Cowgirls at 7:00 p.m. in Laramie, Wyo.
