THIS WEEK: The University of Utah women's swimming and diving teams will host two Mountain West Conference opponents. The Utes compete against New Mexico on Friday at 6 p.m.(MST). On Saturday at 1 p.m. (MST) the Utes, will host Colorado State. Both of the meets will be held in Ute Natatorium, located to the north of the Huntsman Center. The women are 2-4 overall and 2-1 MWC.
WASHINGTON RECAP: The University of Utah men's and women's swimming teams both fell to Washington Saturday. The women finished with a score of 73-132, while the men score was 65-138. The women drop to 2-4 overall, while the men fall to 1-3 overall.
For the women, Kristen Kaiser took top honors in the 1000 free (10:19.66) and the 500 free (5:05.23). Neringa Statkeviciute finished first in the 50 free with a time of 24.18 and second in the 100 free (52.20), snapping her streak of five first place finishes in the event.
Cody Rempfer finished first in the 200 fly with a time of 1:52.25. Evan Castro finished second in the 200 free (1:45.55) and senior Daniel Godfrey finished second in the 200 (1:56.91).
QUOTE COACH MIKE LITZINGER: "Starting the MWC schedule is always an important part of our season. New Mexico and Colorado State have some great athletes and it will be an excellent challenge for our team."
UTE NOTES: Cody Rempfer was named MWC Men's Swimmer of the Week on Oct. 24. Rempfer set a Colorado State Early Bird Invitational record in the 200 fly (1:52.87). ... Loren Sweny set a Utah school record in the 200 back (2:05.27) against Oregon State. ... Neringa Statkeviciute is second on the Utah top performances list in the 100 free, posting a time of 51.26 against BYU. Statkeviciute has finished first in the 100 free in five of the six meets she has competed in. She also ranks fourth on the Ute top performances list in 50 free (23.85), winning the event three out of the last four meets.
