SALT LAKE CITY - Utah sophomore guard Nick Jacobson is the Mountain West Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week after leading the Utes to 2-0 record last week. This is Jacobson's first player of the week honor of his career.
Jacobson, from Fargo, N.D., (Roseville HS, Minn.) averaged 22.0 points and 2.5 rebounds last week. The Ute guard shot 65 percent from the field (15-of-23), 69 percent from 3-point range (11-of-16) and 75 percent free throw line (3-of-4).
In the 76-70 win vs. San Diego State, Jacobson was one-point shy of his career high with 25 points. He tied the school record with seven 3-pointers (in 10 attempts) and hit 9-of-14 shots from the field. Jacobson's 19 points (4-of-6 treys) was a game high in the 63-57 overtime win at Air Force Saturday as he played the entire 45 minutes. He also hit 6-of-9 from the field and 3-of-4 from the free throw line to go with three rebounds and one assist.
Jacobson has shot 16-of-24 (66.7) from 3-point range over the first three conference games and currently leads the MWC in scoring (league games only) with 23.3 points per game.
