LARAMIE, Wyo.- The men's and women's swimming and diving teams both fell to the Wyoming Cowboys on Thursday. The women finished with a score of 125.5-117.5 while the men finished 135-96. The women drop to 4-5 overall and 3-3 in the Mountain West Conference. The men are 1-3 overall, 0-3 MWC.
Freshman Cody Rempfer led the men with two first place finishes in the 100 fly (51.76) and 200 IM (1:56.50). Evan Castro finished second in the 100 breast (58.28) and the 200 free (1:45.94). Jonathan Hanna also finished second in the 500 free (4:52.11) and the 1000 free (10:07.41).
For the women, Kristen Kaiser and Neringa Statkeviciute both won two individual events apiece. Kaiser finished first in the 200 free (1:54.40) and the 500 free (5:09.16). Statkeviciute took top honors in the 50 free (24.47) and the 100 free (52.41). Senior Courtney McKinney won the 200 IM (2:08.68). She also finished second in the 100 free (53.78). In the 1000 free, Freshman Sara Afong took top honors with a time of 10:57.32, almost eight seconds ahead of the next competitor. Tessa Greegor won the 100 breast with a time of 1:05.36.
The Utes are back in action against Air Force in Colorado Springs on Saturday at 1 p.m.
