Colorado Springs, Colo.- The University of Utah women's swimming and diving team defeated Air Force Saturday 161.2-137, the men's team fell 164.5-129.5. The women improve to 5-5 overall and 4-3 in the Mountain West Conference. The men fall to 1-4 overall and 0-4 MWC.
Kristen Kaiser led the women by winning three individual events. Kaiser won the 200 fly (2:11.99), the 400 IM (4:41.64) and the 1650 free (17:44.16). The Utes swept the 100 breast, with Tessa Greegor finishing first (1:05.25), Phoenix Fribourg finished second (1:06.82), Bryn Evans finished third (1:08.53) and Melissa Chamberlin took fourth (1:08.85). In the 200 free, sophomore Neringa Statkeviciute finished first (1:51.94), Courtney McKinney finished second (1:54.63) and Renee Dyer finished third (1:56.83). Chamberlin took top honors in the 200 breast (2:25.13), while fellow Utes Greegor (2:28.05) and Evans (2:29.18) finished second and third respectively.
For the men, Cody Rempfer finished first in the 200 fly (1:52.58) and the 400 IM (4:12.22). He also took third in the 100 fly (51.60). In the 200 free, Brett Hoersting finished first (1:44.47) and Matthew Marceau finished second (1:44.51). Brandon Durrant took the top spot in the 100 free (47.89), edging out fellow teammate Jacob Burton (48.18).
The Utes will travel to Provo, Utah to take on in-state rival Brigham Young. The meet will be held on Feb. 8, 2002.
