THIS WEEK:
The Utes will open the home season against Florida State on Saturday, Nov. 23. The meet will be held at 4:00 p.m. at the Ute Natatorium.
UTE NOTES:
The Utah men are now 3-3 while the women improved to 6-2. Utah will be swimming its first home meet of the season. The meet with Florida State was moved from its original time of 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. due to the Utah vs. BYU football game.
SCOUTING THE OPPOSITION:
Florida State's men and women are 4-0 pending a meet on Tuesday against Florida and a double dual meet with BYU and UNLV. The Seminoles are a traditionally a very strong team on the national scene and this year is no exception.
REVIEWING LAST WEEK:
Both the men and the women went 1-1 last week. For the men they lost to Ohio State 130-111 on Friday, but followed that up with a win on Saturday over Wright State 125-112. Utah was led by Jonathan Larsen who helped break two pool records at Wright State. Larsen's 200 Medley Relay team broke the pool record with a time of (1:34.14). He also won the 100 Free (45.51) breaking a record that had stood for 13 years. Against Ohio State he swam the 100 Free in (44.89) which is the fifth fastest time in the country to this point in the year.
On the women's side Utah fell to Ohio State 130-111 and also regrouped to beat Wright State 132-99. Leading the way for the Utes was Loren Sweny who won two events, the 200 IM (2:12.22) and the 500 Free (5:09.05) against Wright State.
QUOTING HEAD COACH MICHAEL LITZINGER:
"This is another non-conference team that is traditionally strong on a national level. This meet should help us on our way to the Mountain West Conference Championships. Florida State has a group of high-level athletes and it should be great competition."
