PROVO, Utah - The University of Utah's women's tennis team defeats the Wyoming Cowgirls, 4-0 to advance to the finals in the consolation bracket. The Utes will face Air Force after the Falcons etched out Colorado State, 4-3. The women netters redeem themselves with this win after Wyoming ousted the Utes Apr. 6, 4-3.
In singles action, Utah did extremely well in both singles and doubles. The Utes swept all three singles matches with a tremendous boost from the freshman class. Linn Ronnberg beat out Yuliani Santi, 6-1, 6-2. Freshman Ellen Svensson prevailed over Jennifer Hancock, 6-2, 6-3 and freshman Allison Hansen notched Ivana Miloscuic, 6-1, 6-1.
In doubles action, the women netters had little problem securing the doubles point as they won two of the three matches in impressive form. Svennson and Cassie Kasteler teamed up to defeat Santi and Paulina Del Monte, 8-4 and Ronnberg and Sheri Esrock triumphed over Toni Terhaar and Gyulai, 8-2.
For bragging rights and the 5th place seeding, Utah will compete against the Falcons of Air Force. The Utes knocked off Air Force Jan. 20, 4-3. The match will be played at the BYU Tennis Complex, Apr. 27, at 10:00 a.m.
