Upcoming Event: Women's Tennis at Colorado State Invite on September 12, 2025

THIS WEEK: The women's tennis team (8-11) will be hosting instate rival BYU and Southern Utah. The Utes and Cougars are in a heated race for the fourth and fifth place seeding in the Mountain West Conference. The two teams were tied for fourth place before last weekends competition. The BYU match will be played Fri, Apr. 12, at 2:00 p.m. The Southern Utah match will begin Sat., Apr. 13, at 2:00 p.m. Both matches will be held at the Salt Lake Swimming and Tennis Club (weather permitting).
THE UTES: Last week, Utah split against Wyoming and Colorado State. The Utes were edged out by Wyoming, 4-3, but came back the next day with a victory over Colorado State, 5-2. Against Colorado State, senior Linn Ronnberg defeated Amanda Barz, 7-6, 4-6, 6-4. Freshman Ellen Svensson etched out Catherine Sullivan, 6-1, 2-6, 6-4. Captain Cassie Kasteler notched Bobbe Vasos, 6-2, 2-6, 6-2. Irini Kotoglou beat out Dasha Zhurin, 6-4, 4-6, 6-1 and freshman Allison Hansen defeated Alexandra Paganetti, 6-2, 6-4.
COMING UP: Utah will be up against No. 48 ranked Boise State. The Broncos will be hosting Denver and Utah State before the upcoming match with Utah. The match will be Apr. 20 at 11:00 a.m. in Boise, Idaho.
QUOTING TSUMAS: "This match with BYU is extremely important for us," says head coach John Tsumas. "We need this victory to get back into the MWC race. I feel we have a good chance of winning."
