Indoor Track and Field Finishes Snake River Open

POCATELLO, Idaho - The University of Utah indoor track and field teams continued the 2003 season with the Snake River Open on Sat., Jan. 18. The Utes continue their success with all three throwers setting new personal records in the weight throw.
Utah's Vanessa Mortensen set a new personal record in the weight throw with a third-place finish and a distance of (50' 11.50"). Freshman Beck Riddle also set a new personal record in the weight throw with a fourth-place finish and a 50' 6.00" distance. Sophomore Amber DeVries set a personal record in the weight throw with an eight-place finish and a distance of 46' 9.50". The 4x400 meter relay team posted a season best 3:56.34 finish and earned fourth place in the event. On the men's side junior Nephi Tyler finished fifth in the 800m (1:56.21).
"We had a steady team improvement," states Head Coach Lisa Archer. "We are very excited for our first home meet next week."
Next the Utes will take on Weber and BYU on Sat., Jan. 25 in Kearns, Utah. This will mark the first track and field meet held at the new Utah Olympic Oval after playing host to several 2002 Olympic Events.
