SALT LAKE CITY- The University of Utah women's swimming and diving team guaranteed its first winning season since 1988 by beating Air Force 130-106 on Saturday. The win improves Utah's record to 10-7 overall (5-2 in conference). The men dropped their third straight meet as the Falcons won 141-100, with the loss the Utes record falls to 5-7 overall (1-3 in conference).
For the women Marta Stepanczuk won in the 1650 free (17:29.46) and the 500 free (5:08.16). Neringa Statkeviciute was also a two-event winner in the 200 free (1:52.79) and the 100 free (52.02).
On the men's side Jonathan Larsen was a triple-event winner with victories in the 100 free (45.56), 50 free (20.94) and 200 medley relay (1:32.88) with teammates David Fleisch, Evan Castro and Cody Rempfer. Rempfer also won the 400 IM (4:06.17) and Castro won the 100 breast (57.19). The men won 6 of 13 events.
"The women swam well and it was nice to get back-to-back conference wins," says Head Coach Michael Litzinger. "The guys swam extremely well but just came up short again."
