SALT LAKE CITY, Utah - The University of Utah women's tennis team continued their home stand against Saint Mary's on Sunday, Jan. 26 at the Eccles Tennis Center. Utah earned a 5-2 victory over the Gaels to improve to 2-0 in regular season play and remain undefeated at home.
In singles competition, junior Sheri Esrock downed Valerie Verrier at the two (6-4, 7-5.) At the four, Sophomore Rachel Alder edged out Catalina Fillol (4-6, 6-2, 6-3.) Sophomore Allison Hansen downed Megan Schulman at the five (6-1, 6-2) and freshman Maria Svensson emerged victorious over Nicole Hunstock at the six (6-4, 6-4)
In doubles competition, the Utes swept all three matches. Senior Cassie Kasteler and sophomore Ellen Svensson teamed up to defeat Saint Mary's Fillol and Brnjacovic 9-8 (9-7) at the one position. At the two, Alder and Esrock downed Saint Mary's Verrier and Hunstock 8-6. Utah's Allison Hansen and Maria Svensson finished the doubles play with a 9-8 (7-1) victory over Saint Mary's Harden and Schulmar.
Next the Ute's will continue their home stand by taking on Boise State at the Eccles Tennis Center on Sunday, Feb. 2. Competition will begin at 11:00 a.m.
