BOISE, Idaho - The University of Utah women's tennis team completed the first day of the Boise Invitational.

In singles play, freshman Whitney Eber downed Portland's Kaori Tanabe (7-6,3-6,6-4). Senior Sheri Esrock defeated Ester Bak of Oregon (4-6,6-4,6-4).Junior Allison Hansen downed Boise's Alissa Ayling (7-6, 6-2). In later rounds of the tournament, Hansen fell to Sanja Indic of Portland (6-4, 3-6, 6-2) and Eber fell to Anna Curtolo of Boise (6-4, 6-3). Oregon's Anna Leksinksa defeated Esrock (7-6, 6-3).

In doubles play, Eber/Hansen lost to Leksinska/Hoz de Vila of Oregon (8-5).

Competition will continue through Saturday and Sunday.
