THIS WEEK:
The University of Utah swimming and diving teams open the conference slate of the season this Friday and Saturday, Nov. 7 and 8. The women host San Diego State on Friday, at 6 p.m. On Saturday, at 2 p.m., both the men and women will be in action as UNLV visits.
UTE NOTES:
Utah competed in its first action of the season at the Don Reddish Relays on Oct. 24, where they hosted Brigham Young. The women opened up with a 148-140 win, while the men lost 152-136.
SCOUTING SAN DIEGO STATE AND UNLV:
San Diego State is coming off a second-place finish at the UOP Invitational. Last season, the Utes beat the Aztecs 173-113. The Ute men beat UNLV last year 180-116. The win was the first conference dual meet win for Utah in four years. The women fell to the Rebels last season 167-131.
LOOKING BACK AT THE DON REDDISH RELAYS:
Tessa Greegor's lead off 1:03.42 was an NCAA "B" standard qualifying time. Kristen Kaiser won five events-the 300 Fly, 800 Free, 500 Free, 1500 Free, and 400 IM Relays. Meghan Demchuk was a four event winner in the 300 Fly, 800 Free, 400 Medley and 400 IM Relays. Cody Rempfer's time of 49.40 to lead off in the 300 Fly Relay is the eighth fastest time in Utah history. The men's 200 Freestyle Relay of Rempfer, Larsen, Castro, and Massberg marked the first free relay victory over BYU in four years.
QUOTING HEAD COACH Michael Litzinger:
"We are training with much more intensity this season, and it is paying off in the competition pool. Both SDSU and UNLV are well coached teams, and will be ready to swim well. I believe it will be a very competitive weekend."
"Last season the men snuck up on the Rebels, and we will have to be ready for a great meet with them at home."
