SALT LAKE CITY - The University of Utah men's and women's team knocked off UNLV on Saturday. The Utah men opened up their conference schedule with a 157.5-83.5 win. The Utes start off the season 1-0 (1-0 MWC). The Utah women also were victorious 143-94, moving to 2-0 (2-0 MWC).
For the men, Cody Rempfer won three individual events. Rempfer won the 200 breast (2:04.34), 200 fly (1:49.06) and the 200 IM (1:53.82). "This was a great win, Rempfer won three events, but it was a team effort. This is a big step for the program," comments Head Coach Michael Litzinger.
On the women's side, Meghan Demchuk won the 200 fly (2:07.38), 200 IM (2:08.86) and the 400 medley relay (3:52.98). Also Kristen Kaiser was a three-event winner, as she finished on top in the 500 free (5:01.12), 200 free (1:53.22) and the 400 free relay (3:34.89). "The women came together and did a great job winning back-to-back meets. UNLV is a good team and will only get better by the time the conference tournament comes around," adds Litzinger.
The Utes next meet will be on Nov. 22, at Denver University. Utah will not swim another home meet until Jan. 16 against New Mexico.
