FORT WORTH, Texas -- In a match that was called early due to lightning, the University of Utah women's tennis team fell to Texas Christian University. Despite Utah's lead in the final two singles mathces of the day, the Horned Frogs had captured the first five points and were determined the winner of the contest. The loss sets the Utes team record at 4-5 on the season.
Utah lost the doubles point, with Cassie Kasteler and Ellen Svensson succumbing to Pay Aburto and Rosa Perez 8-0; Maria Svensson and Alisson Hansen losing to Saber Pierce and Karla Mancinas 8-4; and Rachel Alder and Sheri Esrock falling to Ivonne Andrade and Brenna Shakelford 8-4.
In singles, the Utes dropped four of the six matches, but Sheri Esrock and Maria Svensson both had leads in the second set. Esrock, in number three singles, lost the first set 7-6, but held a lead with the match tied at 3-3 in the second. Svensson captured the first set against Ivonne Andrade 6-4 in number six singles, and was poised to make a move down 3-4 in the second.
