SALT LAKE CITY, Utah -- The University of Utah women's tennis team won their second match in a row today with a 7-0 win over visiting Portland State. The win puts the Utes overall record at 6-13 on the season, with two matches remaining on the season.
The Utes were strong on the day, winning without dropping a set. Ellen Svensson and Allison Hansen had an 8-4 win in number one singles over Katie Owens and Denise Cockrell. In no. two singles, Sheri Esrock and Maria Svensson had an 8-1 win over Lisa Bessman and Kaite Slizewski, while Hilary Doyle and Cassie Kasteler defeated Blaze Wadam and Haley McDonald 8-5
In the singles, Ellen Svensson was victorious in number one 6-4, 6-1 over Katie Owens. Cassie Kasteler, at number two singles, defeated Denise Cockrell 6-1, 6-1. Kasteler, a senior in her final home match, said, "We've started a good winning streak going into conference championships."
This marks the second 7-0 win for Utah this season. This weekend, they will travel to Sacramento State and Fresno State to wrap up the regular season before next week's conference championships in Provo.
