Utah junior Cody Rempfer and sophomore Sterling Richards have been named Mountain West Conference Men's Swimmer and Diver of the Week, respectively. This is the second weekly honor for Rempfer this season (third of his career) and the first career accolade for Richards.
Rempfer, a Lodi, Calif., product, won a total of six events (four individual, two team) last weekend, helping the Utes to non-conference victories over UC San Diego and UC Irvine. On Jan. 9 against UC Irvine, he was victorious in the 200 individual medley (1:52.31, fourth fastest time in MWC this season) and the 200 breastroke (2:02.74, second fastest time in MWC this season). Rempfer also helped the Ute 400 medley relay team to a winning time of 3:25.22. Against UC San Diego on Jan. 10, he turned in his second 200 breastroke victory of the weekend (2:05.72) and pulled in a victory in the 200 butterfly (1:49.17). Rempfer completed his weekend as a part of the 200 medley relay squad that clocked in a time of 1:34.48 to claim the win.
Richards, a Woods Cross, Utah, native, swept the board events in Utah's two weekend meets. He scored 324.97 in the 3-meter dive (64.5 ahead of second place finisher) and 337.05 in the 1-meter dive against UC Irvine. Against UC San Diego, Richards turned in point totals of 324.45 in the 3-meter and 258.7 in the 1-meter to complete the sweep.
