Laramie, Wyo. - Both the men's and women's Utah swimming and diving team remained unbeaten in conference competition on Thursday. Utah beat Wyoming 135-102 in women's competition and the Ute men won 150-93. "We swam a tough meet against a good team," comments Head Coach Michael Litzinger. "It took a whole team effort and this is a great win."
The men move to 2-0 in the Mountain West Conference with the victory. The win over the Cowboys marks the first time since 1998 that the Utes have won this match up. The 400 medley relay team of Andrew Cole, Evan Castro, Cody Rempfer and Jonathan Larsen set a Wyoming school record with a time of 3:23.19. Rempfer added two more victories, winning the 200 IM and the 200 fly, as the Utes remain undefeated on the season. Diver, Sterling Richards swept the boards in the meet.
Meghan Demchuk led the women winning three events. Demchuk won the 200 IM, 200 fly and was on the winning 400 medley relay team. The 400 medley relay team of Erin O'Connor, Tessa Greegor, Amy Barefield and Demchuk set a Wyoming school record in the event, with a time of 3:57.71. Utah avenged a loss suffered last time they traveled to Wyoming and move to 5-0 in conference competition.
Utah will now travel to Air Force for a meet on Jan. 24, at 1:00 p.m. "This was a great meet and we feel excellent about heading to Air Force," adds Litzinger.
