COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Utah center Andrew Bogut was named the Mountain West Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week today, marking his second career award. Last week, Bogut averaged 19.3 points, 10.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 2.0 blocks and 1.0 steals per game, while shooting .625 (20-32) from the field and .750 (18-of-24) from the free throw line.
A 7-foot sophomore from Melbourne, Australia, Bogut paced the Utes to a 2-1 record and a fourth-place finish at the Great Alaska Shootout last week. An all-tournament team selection, Bogut was a perfect 8-of-8 from the field with a career-high 23 points in an opening round loss to No. 22 Washington. He also added 12 rebounds, four assists and four blocks against the Huskies. Bogut tallied 16 points, 11 boards, four assists and two blocks in a victory over High Point. It was his third consecutive double-double to start the season. In the final game versus Furman, Bogut totaled 19 points and seven rebounds.
The Runnin' Utes host instate rival Southern Utah on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. in the Jon M. Huntsman Center.
