SALT LAKE CITY - Richard Chaney, a junior forward/guard on the Utah men's basketball team, broke two bones in his left hand on Monday in practice. After seeing a team physician on Tuesday morning, it was determined that Chaney will have surgery on Wednesday. He is expected to be out four to six weeks to recover.
Chaney has started 10 of the 11 games for the 8-3 Runnin' Utes this season, averaging 11.5 points per game to rank third on the team. He is also averaging 2.7 rebounds in 27.2 minutes per game, and has 17 assists and 10 steals this season.
Junior forward Bryant Markson will take Chaney's spot at small forward in the starting lineup. The Utes host Weber State on Tuesday night at 7:05 p.m. in the Huntsman Center.
