BOISE, IDAHO - The University of Utah women's tennis team had a 4-3 win over the University of Idaho to conclude the second day of the Boise Invitational.
The Utes fared well in doubles play but only managed to pick up one win. Senior Sheri Esrock and freshman Cinthia Saucedo downed Kareen Konishi and Patricia Ruman (8-5) at the No.2 spot. Junior Allison Hansen teamed up with freshman Whitney Eber at the No. 1 spot but fell to Sunel Nieuwoudt and Jessica Hubbard (8-5). Senior Rachel Alder and sophomore Jenessa Jackson were defeated by Mariel Tinnirello and Monica Martin (8-4) at the No. 3.
In singles competition, Esrock beat Nieuwoudt in three sets (6-3, 2-6, 6-3) at the No. 1 spot.Hansen played at the No. 2 spot, where she lost by default (2-5) to Tinnirello. A knee injury forced Hansen to stop competing. At the No. 3 spot, Eber took down Hubbard (6-1, 6-1) and freshman Jessica Watts crushed Monica Martin (6-4, 6-4) at the No. 4. Saucedo downed Konishi (6-3, 6-1) at the No. 5 and Alder fell to Ruman (6-3, 6-3) at the No. 6 spot.
Head Coach Megan Dorny comments on the match. " Allison will not be playing tomorrow. She hurt her knee and it was serious enough that she had to stop. We will have to see how her condition is when we get back to Salt Lake."
" We're sorry to lose her. Jenessa Jackson will step in tomorrow against No. 59 ranked Boise State and we will hope for the best."
