Track Finishes First Day of Mountain State Games

POCATELLO, Idaho - The University of Utah indoor track and field teams finished the first day of competition of the Mountain State Games on Friday, Feb. 06. Held at the Holt Arena and hosted by Idaho State, the meet featured athletes from Brigham Young, Weber State and Utah Valley State College Montana State, Montana, Utah State, Weber State, Brigham Young, Utah Valley State, Southern Utah and Sacramento State.

The first day of competition started with pentathlon and heptathlon events and included all open events. Utah took gold in the women's distance medley posting a 10:32.57 finish.

Leading the Utes were Amber Devries, Liz Gifford and Jennifer Kaplar. DeVries continued to show improvement in the weight throw finishing fifth overall with a distance of 50' 8.50". Gifford finished 13th in the pentathlon scoring 2,992 points and Kaplar finished 10th in the 55-meter hurdles with a 8.56 finish.

Tomorrow's events kick off with the 60-meter hurdles heptathlon race and men's shot put at 9:30 a.m. The final event will be the 4x400-meter relay, which begins at 3:05 p.m.
