Quarterfinal Game 1 - #3 Utah 75, #6 San Diego State 69
- Utah and San Diego State met in the MWC Quarterfinals for the first time today. The Utes improved to 5-1 against the Aztecs all-time in postseason tournament action with the 75-69 win. Their last postseason meeting prior to today came in the quarterfinals of the 1995 WAC Tournament. Utah won 72-63.
- San Diego State falls to 1-4 in MWC Quarterfinal games, while Utah improves to 4-0. After winning its first-ever MWC Quarterfinal by 11, the Utes have won the last three by an average of 4.3 points.
- San Diego State falls to 0-4 in the MWC Tournament when trailing at the half, while Utah improves to 3-1 when ahead at the break.
- With San Diego State leading 65- 62 with four minutes remaining in the game, Utah went on a 13-4 run to help post a 75-69 victory.
- Utah's Nick Jacobson hit five three-pointers in the first half (5-of-7) and had seven total in the game (7-of-11). The seven treys is the second most in an MWC Tournament game. Air Force's Jarvis Croff has eight against Utah in 2000.
- Jacobson scored Utah's last 10 points of half (4:03) prior to Tim Frost's field goal to end of the half.
- Jacobson scored 24 points today, which is his career-high in an MWC Tournament game. His previous high was 16 vs. UNLV in the 2002 semifinals.
- Andrew Bogut of Utah pulled down 12 rebounds against the Aztecs to tie the MWC Tournament freshman record (R.T Guinn of New Mexico in 2000). It was also tied for fourth most in a MWC Tournament game. His five assists were also career-high.
- San Diego State's Aerick Sanders led the Aztecs today with 18 points, marking his highest point total in a MWC Tournament game. It was his 10th straight double-figure scoring game and 26th of the year.
- Wesley Stokes dished out an Aztec MWC Tournament record six assists today. The old record was five, accomplished several times. 16th double-figure rebound game.
- San Diego State turned the ball over seven times to Utah's 15. The Aztecs were 13-4 entering the game when having an advantage in the turnover category.
- The Utes are 19-1 when scoring at least 60 points this season with their only loss coming to Wyoming (74-65) on Feb. 16.
- The Aztecs had won 28 of the last 29 games when leading with five minutes to play in regulation. SDSU led 63-62 today, but fell 75-69.
- #3 Utah will meet the winner of the #2 BYU vs. #7 Wyoming game in the first semifinal game Friday night at 7 p.m.
