SALT LAKE CITY - The University of Utah men's swimming team officially qualified two swimmers for the NCAA Championships on March 25-27. Evan Castro and Cody Rempfer each put up NCAAB provisional qualifying times in the Mountain West Conference Championships and were officially admitted into the NCAA Championships on Friday.
At the conference championships, Castro swam a time of 54.39 in the 100 breast to send him to the championships. Rempfer qualified in the 200 butterfly with his time of 1:47.02. The NCAA Men's Championships will take place in East Meadow, N.Y. "To send multiple guys from the team to this meet shows a great turnaround in this program from four years ago," comments Head Coach Michael Litzinger. "The NCAA Championships is the fastest meet in the world from top to bottom. The meet is as fast if not faster than the Olympics. We are really excited to have our guys compete."
Friday also saw Ute diver Sterling Richards finish 13th in the NCAA Zone Qualifiers. Richards finished with a score of 522.85 in the one-meter diving.
